Welcome to the Australian Local Food System Policy Database. This is a collection of policies from New South Wales (NSW) and Victorian local governments that relate to healthy, sustainable, and equitable food systems.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY Strategy Many roadsides have high quality vegetation, providing shelter and food for local fauna. The conservation of these areas can also reduce the incursion of weeds in adjacent farmland. Council programs with other agencies and groups include:  removal of target weeds on roadsides across the municipality in a 4 year program, with funding assistance from the Victorian government  cooperation with other agencies in the Box Grassy Woodlands project to improve the condition of roadsides in the north of the municipality, as important corridors in this threatened landscape  cooperation with other agencies in the Lower Ovens Floodplain Project, restoring wetland communities in the Lower Ovens floodplain  improving roadside habitat for grey-crowned babbler from 2001-2004  cooperating with Landcare groups in projects to improve roadside vegetation. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY Strategy Working with business groups: Work with business groups to assist businesses to understand the impacts of climate change and peak oil, and conduct risk management and recovery planning for their business. Assist businesses (agricultural and non-agricultural) to re-examine long-term planning in the light of climate variability and peak oil challenges. Support education and demonstration of farming practices to improve soil health, control emerging weeds and pests, and conservation of natural values as part of whole of farm management.
