Welcome to the Australian Local Food System Policy Database. This is a collection of policies from New South Wales (NSW) and Victorian local governments that relate to healthy, sustainable, and equitable food systems.

ETHICAL CATERING POLICY 3.3 Council will only purchase eggs produced using cruelty-free / ‘free-range’ production methods. The veracity of eggs sold as ‘free-range’ will be taken at face-value until such time as universal or legally enforceable standards for the production of free range eggs eventuate in Australia. 3.4 Council will not enter into catering arrangements with suppliers who knowingly source foodstuff with genetically modified (GM) ingredients. 3.5 Council requires all businesses offering catering services to complete a general sustainable ethics declaration outlining their ability to source produce and products in accordance with the provisions stated in this Policy (Refer to Appendix 1). ETHICAL CATERING POLICY Byron Shire Council recognises the importance of ethically and sustainably produced foods to the nutritional health and general wellbeing of our community, the local economy and the wider environment. The Byron Shire Ethical Catering Policy aims to increase the demand for sustainably produced foods within the Byron Shire, while supporting the objectives of the Byron Shire Sustainable Agricultural Strategy (2004) and the Byron Shire Greenhouse Strategy (2008). Eurobodalla Settlement Strategy Action RI2: identify and map priority agricultural lands. Factors to be considered in that mapping are land classifications, soil types, visual and rural landscape 98 amenity, existing productive enterprises, large contiguous tracts of suitable land and improved pastures Action RI3: prepare a development control plan to identify appropriate building design for rural dwellings and farm buildings in visual amenity and environmentally sensitive areas. Eurobodalla Settlement Strategy Application of a rural village zone and relaxation of dwelling entitlement regulations in areas where agriculture will not be adversely affected will extend land supplies without compromising environmental protection objectives. This may stimulate development in these small settlements and surrounding larger settlements on the proviso that these lands and villages will not be serviced with reticulated water and/or sewer. Additional dwellings may strengthen rural villages by enabling rural workers to live in those villages and to farm nearby freehold or leasehold land.
