ANNUAL REPORT 2018/2019 | In October 2018 Council was notified that we were eligible for $1 million from the Federal Government’s ‘Drought Communities Programme’. Our initiatives were unique and far reaching, providing ongoing economic stimulation to our drought impacted Shire. Staff engaged with charities and support workers, to identify projects that would best assist drought impacted communities and stimulate the local economy. In March 2019, several successful projects were announced which included water-filling stations, and upgrades to community, sport and recreation facilities. ANNUAL REPORT 2018/2019 | on the Upper Hunter Shire’s standing as the Horse Capital of Australia. The drought has impacted across the Shire, and has been devastating for many. Council has undertaken a number of initiatives to assist those most in need. Difficulty in accessing water has had a major impact on road maintenance which requires large amounts of water to be carted to work sites. Murrurundi has a long history of water insecurity and in 2018/2019 the tender was awarded for the construction of the Murrurundi Water Pipeline, after many years of the necessary planning and approval processes. The project will include construction of a 40 kilometre water pipeline from Scone, providing Murrurundi with a secure water source from Lake Glenbawn. The pipeline project is estimated to cost $14.2 million, with over $13 million in funding provided by the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Water Security Upper Hunter Shire Council • Annual Report 2018-2019 for Regions program. The remainder of the project funding is provided by Council. ANNUAL REPORT 2018/2019 | There will be a number of tanks and pump stations along the pipeline that will be able to move 2 megalitres of water a day from Scone to Murrurundi. The pipeline will be buried the entire length of the route. The only areas where the completed pipeline will be visible is where it enters/exits pump stations and there will be above ground access points to the pipeline valves along the way. Council met with affected property owners along the pipeline corridor to establish access agreements and easement agreements on both private and Crown land. The pipeline is due to be completed in mid 2020. The pipeline project is estimated to cost $14.2 million, with over $13 million in funding provided by the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Water Security for Regions program. The remainder of the project funding is provided by Council. The pipeline design allows for drinking water reticulation and reservoirs for the village of Blandford, Parkville and Wingen to be constructed in the future. Annual Report 2018/2019 | A real highlight was TASTE Camden, where almost 10,000 people came down to Camden Town Farm to enjoy all it had to offer. There were more than 70 food stalls, live music performances and appearances from celebrity chefs Miguel Maestre and Katherine Sabbath.
