Economic Development Strategy Key priority 1 Summary: Industry Assistance and Engagement Council will work collaboratively with local industry and businesses through ongoing engagement and support. Council will assist and support businesses seeking to grow through a variety of business development activities and in coordination with industry. Council will maintain data and information regarding the local economy and track business sentiment and growth. Council will work together with and support local businesses seeking grant funding from the State and Commonwealth Governments. Council will maintain a productive, on-going relationship with our local businesses so that it is well placed to support local businesses to grow. Rationale: Existing businesses are the heart of any economy. Assisting local businesses to grow will assist the economy to grow and create more local jobs, thus contributing to the identified vision and goals. Most of the key growth opportunities are already represented by local businesses. Through ongoing engagement with local business and industry, Council will be best placed to support these local companies to grow. Economic Development Strategy On a positive note, over the next few years, State and Federal Government along with some private investors will be spending over $1 billion on infrastructure investment in the Shire. There is 38,000 ha of agricultural land in the Shire and the major population centres (and consumer markets) of Sydney and Canberra are within reach. The region has a strong foundation in agriculture, tourism, healthcare and a bourgeoning creative industries scene. Housing is affordable and attractive to families. Advancing Eurobodalla seeks to leverage the natural competitive advantages of the region to foster greater economic diversification and to drive job growth. Economic Development Strategy KEY PROJECT: DEVELOPING A LOCAL FOOD STRATEGY This project aims to strengthen key aspects of the regional food economy, to enhance agribusiness viability and resilience in North East Victoria, which will deliver multiple economic, social and environmental benefits. It will involve activities targeted at building the capacity of individuals, as well as systems-level initiatives to drive long-term change, for maximum impact and effectiveness. The Local Food Strategy will be a partnership between Local Government, Local Health Organisations, Farmers and key stakeholders, such as Landcare and NECMA. The Strategy aims to: • Improve the knowledge and skills of primary producers regarding opportunities for business diversification and adoption of industry sustainability frameworks. • Build skills & strategies for improved mental health and resilience for primary producers • To increase the financial well-being of farm businesses and the mental well-being of farmers, leading to increased capacity for primary producers to implement new on-ground land management practices that will protect the natural resource base and adapt to changes in climate, weather & markets. • Strengthening the capacity for farmers to access local short food supply chains, providing the opportunity to by-pass many of the escalating post farm gate costs (processing, packaging, long-distance distribution, etc.) that contribute to low commodity prices and declining farm business profit margins. • Strengthen the connection between local consumers and local farmers through short food supply chains • Increase the demand of locally grown produce through marketing and education campaigns Economic Development Local food producers Victoria Indigo Regional

Economic Development Strategy of this strategy is the adoption and implementation of the Rural Land Use Strategy.
