A draft discussion paper was developed, providing background information on the affordable housing issues and challenges facing Mitchell. It establishes Council’s role, and that of others, and includes a definition and description of affordable housing. It also includes a demographic overview of Mitchell to identify trends and localised differences, as well as an explanation of potential affordable housing delivery models. The paper ultimately aims to assist Council in articulating and determining its role, function in social and affordable housing. As part of this initiative work was undertaken to include a statement on social and affordable housing in Beveridge North West (BNW) Precinct Structure Plan (PSP). The BNW PSP exhibited included a guideline stating: subdivision on a land should provide up to 10% of the National Disability Agreement (NDA) for the provision of affordable housing as defined by the Planning and Environment Act. Targeted roundtable facilitated discussions were held the middle of November 2019. In attendance were representatives from the development industry, State Government (DHHS, Victorian Planning Authority, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning), Housing Associations/Providers and a representative from the Urban Development Institute of Australia. Mobile Food Vending Vehicles – Local Approvals Policy | P.2 What is the purpose of the Policy? The City of Newcastle supports the operation of food trucks and food vans to enliven the City of Newcastle Local Government Area and encourage diversity in takeaway food options. The purpose of the Policy is to provide the framework for the operation of mobile food vending vehicles in the City of Newcastle Local Government Area. The Policy sets out the relevant legislative requirements for safe food handling and preparation practices and establishes the on-street trading parameters. The Policy also supplements provisions of the Local Government Act 1993, the Roads Act 1993, the Food Act 2003 and associated regulations.
