Annual Report 2017-18 Part B – Statutory Information | E2.2 Provide specific educational programs on waste reduction and recycling, including vegetation recycling, and support these programs through increased recycling services across the region. During this period Council has continued to deliver community participation programs including: • Providing static displays at events. The displays incorporate waste minimisation, recycling collection and processing and using sustainable practices. • Providing presentations to community groups including Armidale Garden Club. • Conducting educational tours to better inform younger members of the community the importance of waste minimisation, recycling and recovery of waste for future reuse. Council also continued activities including: • A pilot study with High School Prefects to introduce a litter program where waste minimisation is achieved through appropriate recycling within the school environment. • A planned Waste Services Guide to assist householders to adopt the various methods for waste minimisation, recycling, recovery, and reuse opportunities that are currently provided by Council. • A compostable catering trial with the Seasons of New England event in Uralla. The increased capacity will enable the facility to accept green waste from major operators and additional households, and will create the operational efficiencies necessary for the City to Soil program to be expanded to other areas. including the Guyra community. City to Soil diverts thousands of tonnes of organic waste away from landfill in the Armidale region each year, by enabling residents to recycle their food scraps and other kitchen waste.
