ANNUAL REPORT 2017/18 The Granny Smith Festival Our 32nd Granny Smith Festival celebrates our vibrant community and the tangy green apple that had its beginnings in Eastwood back in 1868 on a family farm owned by Maria Ann ‘Granny’ Smith. Annual Report 2017/18 TAFE OUTREACH PROGRAM A partnership between Council and Nirimba and Blue Mountains TAFE colleges, the program has been operating at Grantham Heritage Park since early 2011. Following substantial changes to TAFE the previous year, new accredited units of study continued to be offered to students free of charge. These included water management, landscape design, and plant identification. Introductory courses were also offered in horticulture and eco-living as well as developing a micro-business from your backyard. Annual Report 2017/18 40,000 foodies can’t be wrong: Food Truck Fridays in Blacktown Over 30 food trucks took over the City’s Village Green in February 2018 attracting hundreds of foodies. As well as an array of different foods, there was entertainment and a special dessert lane. Marayong resident Tin Shein said he and his family were thrilled the event had been relaunched. ‘We really liked being able to simply drop in and graze the huge variety of food and enjoy the entertainment,’ Mr Shein said. ‘As the word spreads that they are now permanent I reckon more and more families will be there.’ Economic Development Local food initiatives for economic development NSW Blacktown Metropolitan

Annual Report 2017/18 The Guringai Festival Founded in 2001, the Guringai Festival raises awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in the Northern Sydney region.
